In nine days, I’m rolling out of my home in Fruita, Colorado, headed for my happy hunting grounds. Is it all right for me to call it that? I hope so, I hope I have a connection with every man, woman, and child throughout history who has picked up a bow and quiver full of arrows and gone into the woods with an expectation of a challenge and a DREAM success.

For me, hunting is usually a solo affair. It’s hard to find the right person who shares my interests and is willing to take time off work to go. So… since it’s only me, I have adapted a few things to make my time in the woods more enjoyable. Here are a few of my favorite things.

CAMPING CARGO TRAILER

I have a small, cargo trailer that is perfect for a single hunter. I have an old army cot and plenty of counter space and storage, and a place for my Coleman stove to heat water. There have been plenty of September nights when it snowed or rained on opening weekend, and the trailer is 100 times better than a tent.

DVD PLAYER

Yep, I still got one that runs on batteries and has a 9″ screen. I select five movies (comedies and thrillers, not horror) to bring along to watch before going to sleep at night…on my comfy cot…in my dry trailer.

DUDE WIPES

Clearly, Dude Wipes are the 8th wonder of the world. They also make a Dude Shower, a large wet towel that I treat myself to after the meat is in the cooler, or if I’ve been out a couple of hot days, whichever comes first.
